Believe in the Blade?

Fitness gadgets come and go all the time, but rarely does an infomercial fad get popular, lose its luster and then make a comeback. We may have found such an example: the Bodyblade, a hand-held oscillating stick that made an initial splash in 1991 before going somewhat dormant. A recent study conducted at San Diego State University’s Biomechanics Lab found that the Bodyblade Pro resulted in greater shoulder and back muscle recruitment than dumbbells when performed with two common movements (shoulder flexion and abduction). We’re not suggesting that you decrease your dumbbell work in the gym because of these findings, but the Bodyblade might be worth checking out as a supplemental exercise on upper-body day.
