If having six-pack abs is your goal, consider this advice from the author and sports nutritionist who defined “Power Eating.” Eat five fish meals a week, Susan Kleiner, Ph.D., suggests. “Fish mobilizes the stored fat in the abdomen areas to help burn it off,” she says. But those fish have to be rich in fish oils — mackerel, sardines, salmon, tuna, halibut, shellfish, black cod, catfish and some trout. But don’t reach for canned tuna as it doesn’t typically have the blend of fat and protein Kleiner wants you to have. “When you buy an 89-cent can of tuna, you are really only getting protein,” she says. “You need both the fat and the protein because they both stimulate burning of abdominal fat in different ways.”
