You may have heard that if you’re trying to build muscle, soy is a foe. Conventional gym gossip centers on purported “estrogenlike effects” (gasp!). Don’t believe everything you hear around the dumbbell rack. Soy has no negative effects on testosterone, according to a recent meta-analysis done by researchers at the University of Minnesota. This is great news for bodybuilders because soy is the only plant food that is a complete protein source (the better to build muscles with). In addition, soy has been found to kill prostate cancer cells and to chase away heart disease. So pass the edamame, and stock up on soy protein powder for a shake or two a day.
