Sexercise Safely

A little more than a year ago, a Tufts University study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association found a significant link between the adrenaline surge that results from working out or having sex and a heart attack. Cue the media panic about how getting fit or having sex could kill you. But a close read of the study reveals that regular exercisers — or sexercisers — are not really at increased risk of cardiac trouble. In fact, regular active folks are actually 45 percent less likely to experience heart attacks and 30 percent less likely to die should they be stricken. So yes, if you are going to have cardiac issues, you may be more likely to have them after working out or getting nookie. But the more working out and nookie-getting you do, the healthier you actually are. — Steve Mazzucchi
