You need a bit of inflammation to build muscle, but that bodily response can be hard on your joints or organs. FlexNow, a concentrated extract of shea fruit kernels, may help you keep inflammation under control, according to a study published in the January 2010 issue of Phytotherapy Research.
The trial, which followed 89 patients with osteoarthritis of the knees and/or hips for 15 weeks, showed those who took FlexNow experienced a 25 percent reduction in inflammation not only in their joints but also all over their body, from their bones to their cardiovascular system. Specifically, a reduction in the following inflammatory markers were observed: CTX-II, which indicates cartilage protection; TNF-alpha, which benefits joints and muscles; IL-6, which is associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, diabetes and prostate cancer; and C-reactive protein, which is a marker indicating cardiovascular disease.
Besides health benefits, this study shows that FlexNow could relieve joint problems and pain associated with athletic injuries.
