Dymatize Nutrition has done the seemingly impossible: Already known for having some of the best-tasting products in the marketplace, its 2013 quest to kick its products up a notch has resulted in taste-bud-pleasing new flavors and easier mixing to banish the gag-worthy grit and bits so many athletes grin and bear.
“The first product you’ll see with improved taste is Dymatize Elite 100% Whey Protein, with our newest flavors of cookies and cream and cinnamon bun,” says Jeremy Bjork, senior marketing director. “From a product-improvement standpoint, we’ve reached consistency on the amount of protein per serving, so that no matter which flavor you choose, you’ll have 25 grams of protein in each serving.”
Dymatize Elite Fusion 7 is also available in two new flavors: orange dreamsicle and strawberry banana. “This product has more calories, more fat, more comprehensive nutrition than any other product in our lineup,” says Alberto Macher, Dymatize senior brand manager. “Enjoy this anytime protein as a snack, a morning protein boost or a dessert before bed.” Fusion 7 provides 23 grams of protein from seven high-quality protein sources to deliver sustained nutrition for up to seven hours, 5 grams of branched-chain amino acids to help promote the building of muscles and speed recovery, 5 grams of fiber to help control hunger, CLA to help promote fat loss and increase lean body mass, and a strategic vitamin blend of B-6, B-12 and C to help optimize metabolic function and increase energy.
The next change comes in the form of a new version of Dymatize Elite Recoup, an intraworkout/postworkout formula. It offers BCAAs and electrolytes for hydration, endurance and focus for better and longer workouts. “This version has dramatically improved solubility so you won’t notice any particulates or bits after you shake it up, and it has fantastic flavors,” Bjork says. “BCAAs tend to give an aftertaste of burnt tire, but this stuff is clean and free of off-tastes.”
Aside from product improvements, Dymatize is also taking steps to ensure product safety and efficacy through its sport certification and research efforts. “To reinforce trust with the athletic community, we are certifying all our brands HFL Informed-Choice,” Bjork says. “They do raw-material auditing to make sure all our ingredients are clean. But they don’t stop there — they also do finished-product auditing to ensure that our finished goods are clean of all banned substances. Establishing a sport-certified platform allows us to become that trusted training partner. We’ve already been an NSF- and GMP-certified production facility for years. Informed-Choice gives us double certification.”
Dymatize’s research and development team, headed by Robert Wildman, Ph.D., RD, has more than 50 years of experience in product development and sports nutrition. “So we have very solid science that goes into our product formulations,” Bjork says. “This gives people peace of mind that our products are efficacious as well as clean and safe to use. And because we do pressure testing of our products with elite athletes, whether you’re a weekend warrior or an up-and-coming elite athlete, you can trust that they will also work for you.”
