After years of working in sales management in the nutrition industry, Mark Post was excited when the parent company he worked for decided to purchase Champion Nutrition in 2008. But he was even more excited when the owners asked him to be the president.
“The Champion brand has a flawless reputation for delivering the most effective, high-quality and the best-tasting products on the market,” he says. “The brand has been around since 1983 for a reason: It has always delivered on its claims, and I was honored to take the brand forward and make new strides.”
Originally known as a protein brand, Champion has come a long way in diversifying its products for the next generation of sports supplementation. It offers a complete line of nutrition products to professional athletes, bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts worldwide. And because the company manufactures its products on-site at its 135,000 square-foot organic Good Manufacturing Practices-certified facility, it maintains complete control over all aspects of production.
“I test and sample every pilot and first-run product,” Post says. “Every first-line run comes directly to me to ensure it upholds the Champion brand. The ultimate check is, ‘Does it taste good?’ We will not release a product if it’s not the best tasting on the market.” Additionally, he explains that the formulations don’t include ingredients that lack the backing of scientific research. In fact, they work to limit the number of ingredients to get the most effective dosages possible.
Champion’s most popular products include Pure Whey — a low-sugar, low-carb, low-lactose product that offers up to 52 grams of pure whey protein per serving and comes in seven flavors — and Heavyweight Gainer 900, a high-density mass gainer with 900 calories per serving, vitamins, minerals and 35 grams of nitrogen-rich protein.
This year, Champion has released two new UltraMet Meal Replacement products targeting women. “Women often find it difficult to maintain their protein intake while regulating their caloric intake,” Post says. “So we’ve recently launched a high-protein milkshake under our UltraMet brand that delivers great-tasting nutrition in a [ready-to-drink] tetra pak container. There will also be an all-natural UltraMet Lite and UltraMet Low Carb to meet their needs. The protein supplements are made with all-natural flavors and Stevia-based sweeteners.” With only 190 calories and 1.5 grams of fat per serving, UltraMet Lite’s 29 grams of protein boosts energy levels, feeds tired muscles, supports fat loss and promotes well-being. UltraMet Low Carb delivers only 6.5 grams of carbs, plus essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, fiber, micronutrients and 35 grams of protein.
While all these products keep customers coming back for more, Champion’s commitment to quality also meets the discriminating standards of the world’s best athletes. Thanks to mixed-martial arts world featherweight champion Mike Brown, Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields, bodybuilding IFBB pro Peter Putnam and 2008 Flex bikini model winner Kathleen Tesori, Champion Nutrition products are tested again and again at the highest levels of competition. “We are proud to be a part of the winning formula that fuels our athletes to greatness,” Post says.
