The Oak Gets Bronzed

Arnold Honored with Bronze Statue in Columbus.

I wonder what’s better: being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or seeing an 8-foot, 600-pound bronze statue of yourself built and dedicated to your achievements. Well, you’ll have to ask Arnold Schwarzenegger because now he’s the proud owner of both. The 2012 Arnold Classic and Arnold Sports Festival, which took place on March 1–4, marked the 24th year the event has been held in Columbus, Ohio, but Arnold’s connection with the city goes back more than 40 years. To honor this long-standing relationship — and to kick off the festival that’s now swelled to over 18,000 athletes competing in 45 different sports — the statue was dedicated by Dr. Robert Goldman on behalf of the International Sports Hall of Fame and placed on the front lawn of the famed Veterans Memorial Auditorium for fans and athletes alike to admire. Arnold was also among the Hall of Fame’s first class inducted at this year’s event.
