Tomorrow, it all goes down! Professional bodybuilding is coming to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for the first time – ever! But it’s not just any bodybuilding show, it’s the Arnold Classic. In 2011, Arnold Sports Festival organizers decided to take their unique and popular concept global with the first Arnold Classic Europe taking place in Madrid, Spain. The US version of the Arnold Classic celebrated it’s 25th anniversary this year with Dexter Jackson winning his fourth title and now it’s Brazil’s turn to get a glimpse of the biggest, baddest, most shredded men on the planet.
Slowly but surely, the once unimpressive lineup of competitors has grown to feature some of the top names in the sport, all of whom will be vying for the $85,000 grand prize. There's no shortage of storylines for this show. You got Cedric McMillan going for his second win in a row after winning FIBO Power earlier this month. Or, there’s Toney Freeman, chomping at the bit to get his first win of the season after impressive third and second place finishes at the Arnold Classic and Australian Pro, respectively. But for me, I’m excited to see Brandon Curry step on that stage. It’s seems like forever since I’ve heard anything from his camp so it’ll be interesting to see if he’s made enough improvements this offseason to live up to the potential everyone’s been boasting about since early on in his career.
As is the case with every show, I get super psyched up to see the comparison shots from pre-judging all the way up to the final pose-down. This Saturday, April 27, I’ll be right where I always am: sitting in my living room, sipping on a kale shake, MacBook in my lap and my finger pounding away at the refresh button. I’m picking the "X-Man" Toney Freeman to steal the show – let’s hear your predictions!
